Pennant Race Gazette 6/7/10

With 4 runs in the 8th inning, New York came back from a 2-0 deficit and won the final game of this 3 game series 4-3.  Toronto’s Scott Downs was the losing pitcher, Javier Vazquez the winner.

It took 11 innings but Los Angeles overcame an early 4-1 deficit to defeat Atlanta, 5-4.  A.C. Ellis singled in the winning run.  Ronald Belisario was the winning pitcher.  Jesse Chavez took the lose.

Toronto bested New York for the second day, 3-2.  But this time it took 14 innings.  Aaron Hill singled in the winning run off losing pitcher Chad Gaudin.  Casey Janssen was the winner.

Atlanta catcher Brian McCann had 4 RBIs and Troy Glaus hit a 2-run HR as Atlanta beat LA 9-3.  Tommy Hansen was the winning pitcher, Chad Billingsley the loser.

Toronto beat New York 6-1 on two HRs by Jose Bautista.  Britt Cecil gave up only 1 run on 5 hits over 8 innings for the win.

Atlanta tied the score at  4-4 in their half of the 7th, but when LA was hitting Eric O’Flaherty was brought in to face James Loney.  Loney then singled in the winning run in LA’S 5-4 defeat of Atlanta.

A pitcher’s duel between Philadelphia’s Kyle Kendrick and Atlanta’s Derek Lowe ended in a 2-1 victory for Atlanta.  Omar Infante singled in the winning run in the 8th. Reliever Jose Contreras took the lose.

For a 2nd night, Toronto could not hold on to a 9th inning lead.  Reid Brignac doubled in what would prove to be the winning run in Tampa Bay’s 7-3 victory.  Toronto’s starter, Shaun Marcum, pitching into the 9th, took the lose.  David Price was the winner.

Toronto closer Kevin Gregg couldn’t hold a 5-3 lead as Tampa Bay went on to win, 7-6.  Evan Longoria and Ben Zobrist each had two RBIs for Tampa Bay.

Tim Hudson pitched 6 strong innings for Atlanta, giving up 2 runs on 5 hits, as Atlanta beat Philadelphia for the 2nd night, 7-3.  Troy Glaus was the hitting star for Atlanta with a HR and 3 RBIs.

Atlanta handled Philadelphia 9-3.  The scoring was capped by Troy Glaus’ 3-run HR in the 7th. 

 Brandon Morrow pitched a n0-hitter for 5.2 innings, and Toronto held on with a save  by Kevin Gregg, for a 3-2 win over Tampa Bay.  Adam Lind with a 2-run HR was sthe hitting star for Toronto.
